Abstract
1,117,268. Carburetters. SOC INDUSTRIELLE DE BREVETS ET D'ETUDES. March 28, 1967 [April 8, 1966], No.14077/67. Heading F1B. In a curburetter in which fuel from a constantlevel chamber 5, Fig. 1, is sucked into an inlet passage 1 having an air filter 2, a single mechanism 9, 26, 21 connected to the main throttle 4 actuates three different means for venting the chamber, corresponding to normal operation, reduced fuel flow and idling or stoppage. Normal operation: With butterfly valve 4 in an intermediate position (as in Fig. 1), a spring 22 biases the two non-return valves 16, 20 on their seats 15, 19 and on the shoulders 23, 24 of rod 21 thus closing the passages 14, 18. The top part of chamber 5 communicates solely via passage 17 (or alternatively 17b) with a negative pressure zone of the inlet passage 1 thereby reducing the rate of mixture flow through jet 7. Idling operation: Valve 4 is closed as in Fig. 2 (not shown) and the screw 27 on lever 9 moves lever 26 anti-clockwise into contact with abutment 33 whilst rod 21 and valve 20 are raised against spring 22. Chamber 5 is vented via passages 13, 18 to atmosphere whilst passage 17 remains open. Full load operation: When valve 4 is opened as in Fig. 3 (not shown) beyond the position shown in Fig. 1 the spring-loaded finger 30 on lever 9 moves lever 26 clockwise thereby lowering rod 21 and valve 16 against spring 22. Chamber 5 is then vented to atmosphere via passages 13, 14 and the air entry 3 in passage 1. Thus the pressure at the top of chamber 5 is the same as that in the air entry 3 and is not reduced as in the case of normal operation. In another embodiment similar venting means are applied to a carburetter having a pistonoperated auxiliary throttle element 34, Fig. 4, actuated by the vacuum present in passage 35. Throttle 34 moves a tapered needle 36 in a calibrated orifice 37 between chamber 5a and throttling zone 6a.
