Abstract

1,117,238. Feeding compacting rolls. BRITISH IRON & STEEL RESEARCH ASSOCIATION. 9 Nov., 1965 [27 Nov., 1964], No. 48334/64. Heading B5A. Apparatus for producing elongate articles, e.g. continuous strips, from particulate material, e.g. metal powder, comprises a pair of driven compacting rolls and means to feed the material to the bight of the rolls, the feed means comprising a housing containing a rotatable member having a plurality of circumferentially spaced radial projections thereon which, together with the housing, define pockets to receive material from the inlet of the housing and discharge it from the outlet thereof to the bight of the rolls. In a preferred form, the rotating member has a plurality of coaxial sets of the circumferentially spaced radial projections, the projections of each set being circumferentially staggered with respect to the projections of an adjacent set. The inlet may have a variable cross-sectional area to vary the rate of feed to the rotatable member.
