Abstract

A felt conditioner - for example a suction box, felt conditioning shoe, Uhle box, or Scofield conditioner - has the felt contacting surface formed of a dense ceramic material. The materials listed include carbides, borides, and oxides, which may be self-, nitride-, or metal bonded, or may be impregnated with molybdenum disilicide. In the example given a tube of self-bonded silicon carbide is fixed to each edge of a tubular suction box. The conditioner may include water spraying means.
