Abstract
111,643. Allen, B. J., and Ames, R. Y. July 14, 1917. Addition to 110,649. Casting-apparatus; moulds; processes. - Consists in the application of pressure to the slip mixture in addition to the vacuum described in the parent Specification. Fig. 3 shows one form of apparatus in which slip is fed from a funnel j through a valve into the mould b provided with the vacuum jacket c. After filling the mould, the valve l is closed and compressed air, steam, &c. is admitted through a pipe m fitted with a valve n. Instead of air or steam pressure, the slip may be forced in under pressure from a pump or storage tank. The mould b is strengthened by a reinforcing insertion or lining g and may be supported by pebbles or balls s in addition to the studs on the jacket c.
