Abstract
1,116,417. Molecular beams. P.A. MUKHIN, V. S. SVISCHEV, and I. D. SHMYGLEVSKY. 15 April, 1966, No. 16634/66. Heading G6P. A beam of neutral particles is formed from an ion beam by the passage of a gas jet transversely through the ion beam. Electron transfer occurs. The process is effected in a chamber into which the gas, carbon dioxide, is passed through a nozzle. The ion beam enters the chamber through a window, passes through the gas jet and leaves the chamber through a second window as a beam of neutral atoms. The windows are screened from the gas jet by a diaphragm and the chamber is cooled, by liquid nitrogen, to carbonize the gas.
