Abstract

In a bridge for measuring an impedance change #Z 2 which has disturbed the balance, the time needed from a given instant to restore the balance by varying a further bridge impedance Z 4 at a uniform rate is measured, the time being proportional to the change #Z 2 . The initial balance of the bridge is achieved by adjusting the resistor r and observing the bridge output, amplified at 2, on an indicator 3. Thereafter the change #Z 2 is introduced, and to commence rebalancing of the bridge, a start pulse is generated from the unit 5, which starts the operation of the impedance control unit 6, and the timing clock 7. When balance is achieved a zero detector 4 generates a stop pulse to stop the timing clock 7. The time recorded by the clock is proportional to #Z 2 .
