Abstract

1,115,440. Cutting tubes transversely. FREDERICK DUFFIELD PTY. Ltd. 8 March, 1967 [16 March, 1966], No. 10841/67. Heading B4B. A tool for peeling the outer rubber layer from a hose comprises a mandrel 10 adapted to enter the end of a hose and a radial portion 12 to which is secured, by a bolt 19 and nut 19a, a hollow axle 18 between the outer end of which and the head 20 of the bolt 19 are clamped a disc cutter 23 and a toothed cutter 24, the edge 27b of each tooth 27 of the cutter 24 being part of a helix, and the arrangement being such that the cutter 23 severs the outer layer of a hose which is then removed in the form of a ribbon by the cutter 24. Either the tool is held in a vice and the hose rotated or the hose is held stationary and the tool held in a rotatable chuck. The axle 18 can be set in any one of four angular positions to change the angular position of the teeth 27 of the cutter 24. The teeth 27 may be of different radii. Alternatively, the cutter 24 may have only one tooth.
