Abstract

Chlorocarbonylsulphene chloride, Cl.CO.S.Cl, is prepared by heating a vigorously stirred mixture of concentrated sulphuric acid, trichloromethylsulphenyl chloride and water at 45 DEG to 50 DEG C. for 1 to 1.5 hours. The resulting upper phase contains crude Cl.CO.S.Cl which is purified by distillation, b.p. 98 DEG C/760 mm.
