Abstract
The invention comprises compounds of the formula <FORM:0999126/C2/1> wherein R1 represents a C1-C4 alkyl radical or a phenyl radical and R2 represents a C1-C4 alkyl radical. They may be obtained by reacting thionothiol-phosphonic acids of the formula <FORM:0999126/C2/2> in which R1 and R2 have the same meanings as above, either in the form of the alkali metal, alkaline earth metal or ammonium salts, or in the presence of acid-binding agents, with 4-cyanobenzyl halides. It is preferable to carry out the reaction in the presence of inert organic solvents such as aromatic hydrocarbons, low boiling aliphatic ketones and nitriles and dimethyl formamide. The products are useful as pesticides and acaricides (see Division A5). Specification 954,234 is referred to.ALSO:Pesticidal compositions comprise a solid or liquid diluent or carrier and a compound of the general formula <FORM:0999126/A5-A6/1> p where R1 represents a C1-C4 alkyl radical or a phenyl radical and R2 represents a C1-C4 alkyl radical (see Division C2). Conventional solid carriers are used and suitable liquid diluents are water (if necessary with emulsifiers), alcohols, ketones and liquid hydrocarbons. The compositions may contain mixtures of compounds of the above formula or known insecticides and/or fertilizers. In an example the active ingredient is added to a mixture of water and dimethyl formamide using a benzyl hydroxy diphenyl polyglycol ether containing about 10 to 15 glycol ether units as an emulsifier.
