Abstract

L-Isoleucine is produced by culturing a microorganism selected from the microorganisms belonging to the genus Aerobacter, Brevibacterium, Corynebacterium, Micrococcus, Sarcina, or Serratia in a nutrient medium containing DL-a -hydroxybutyric acid or a salt thereof under aerobic conditions and isolating L-isoleucine from the fermentation broth. Suitable salts are the ammonium, sodium, potassium and calcium salts, and the acid or salt is generally used in an amount of 0.5-5% by weight of the culture medium. The culture is suitably carried out at a temperature of about 25-40 DEG C. in a neutral or weakly alkaline medium. Specified microorganisms are Aerobacter cloaca, Brevibacterium ammoniagenes, Brevibacterium divaricatum, Brevibacterium immarcophilum, Brevibacterium saccharolyticum, Brevibacterium flavum, Brevibacterium lactofermentum, Brevibacterium roseum, Corynebacterium equi, Corynebacterium lilium, Corynebacterium callunae, Corynebacterium acetoacidophilum, Micrococcus varians, Sarcina lutea and Serratia marcescens.
