Abstract

L-Glutamine is prepared by aerobically culturing at a pH of from 5.5 to 8.5 and at a temperature of from 24 DEG to 37 DEG C. a glutamic acid producing micro-organism in a nutrient medium comprising a source of assimilable carbon, a source assimilable nitrogen and a source of inorganic salts, the amount of said nitrogen source providing at least 5 parts by weight of assimilable nitrogen per 100 parts by weight of assimilable carbon in the medium. Part of said nitrogen source may be added to the culture medium after the initial propagation of the micro - organisms. Specified micro - organisms are Micrococcus glutamicus ATCC Nos. 14751 and 14572. Specification 839,597 is referred to.
