Abstract
1,114,807. Ball mills. SOCIETE NATIONALE DES PETROLES D'AQUITAINE. 23 March, 1966 [23 March, 1965], No. 1289/66. Headilng B2A. Apparatus 2, Fig. I, for grinding, e.g. rock samples into grains of similar size, comprises an oscillatable grinding chamber 3 containing one or more beater balls 5 or like members, a sieve 11, a collecting chamber 13, and a source of compressed air connected to an enclosure of the grinder. A selecting chamber 7 is connected to the grinding chamber by input and output or return passages 8, 9 and a duct 10, Fig. 2, is connected to the source of compressed air opening out into the input passage. The sieve 11 separates the selecting chamber 7 from the collecting chamber 13, which is provided with an air-permeable filter 16, and a recuperator-homogenizer 17 is removably mounted on the grinder communicating with a non-return member 18 preventing any return of the material in the homogenizer to the collecting chamber. As described, the collecting chamber may be divided into parts 12, 13 by a diaphragm 14 provided with a hole 15, which prevents lumpy pieces detached from the filter 16 being projected towards the sieve 11. In operation, the powder which falls into the recuperator 17 is violently shaken by the movement of the whole apparatus and is then homogenized. Moving members e.g. discs (not shown), having stiff flexible wires vibrate in the chambers to keep the apparatus from clogging in the selecting chambers 7, the precollecting chamber 12, where provided, and the collecting chamber 13.
