Abstract

1,114,514. Washing machines. CONSTRUCTA-WERKE G.m.b.H. 3 Jan., 1966 [19 Feb., 1965], No. 175/66. Heading D1A. In a washing machine, a washing and spin drying unit, comprising a drum 2 rotating about a horizontal axis in a liquid container 1, is supported on oscilating spring supports with spherical cap feet 5, the natural frequencies of the springs 7 and cap feet respectively being greater and less than the rotating frequency of the drum when the radial acceleration acting on the clothes equals the acceleration due to gravity, i.e. the clothes become suspended. The unit is supported so that it can move linearly in three mutually perpendicular directions and can oscillate about three axes parallel to these directions on the supports 4. Supports 4 each comprise a spherical cap 5 whose radius r is greater than the spacing h from the axis x through the centre of gravity of the unit to the spherical cap mounting plate 6. The natural frequency of the springs is 1.4 times and the natural frequency of the cap feet is less than 0.7 times the rotational frequency of the drum when the clothes become suspended. Each support 4 has a ball head which is held in an elastic socket 8 on container 1. Head 9 is held in tubular part 11 within which rod 12 is slidable and whose lower end carries an abutment plate 13 with a recess to receive a sleeve 14 with resilient parts 15 engaging rod 12. The lower end of rod 12 is secured to the cap foot 16 and a buffer 17 is provided between foot 16 and sleeve 14 and a spring 7 is mounted between foot 16 and plate 13. The position of the top 19 of rod 12 in relation to part 11 when the drum is unloaded and loaded is shown at 20 and 21. Cap 5 rests on a felt pad 27 or a pad filled with sand, synthetic plastic granulate or wood flour in a cap shoe 23 and has a head 24 engaging an abutment ring 25.
