Abstract

Novel 5 - (aryloxymethyl) - 2 - oxazolidinethiones of the formula <FORM:1113971/C2/1> wherein R is hydrogen, C1- 6, C1- 6 alkoxy, halogen, trifluoromethyl, nitro, phenyl or styryl and R1 is hydrogen or C1- 6 alkyl are prepared b mixing a 1-amino-3-aryloxy-2-propanol of the formula <FORM:1113971/C2/2> with carbon disulphide and a strong base or with 1,11 - (thiocarbonyl) - diimidazole. The compounds are used for treating topical fungal infections in animals and inhibiting the growth of fungi on plants. The compound 5-[(a ,a ,a -trifluoro - m - tolyloxy) methyl] - 2 - oxazolidinethione is used, dispersed in a pharmaceutical carrier, as a pregnancy inhibitor.ALSO:Topical fungal infections in animals and fungi on plants are treated by using 5 - (aryloxymethyl) - 2 - oxazolidine - thiones of the formula <FORM:1113971/A5-A6/1> in which R is hydrogen, C1-6 alkyl, C1-6 alkoxy, halogen, trifluoromethyl, nitro, phenyl or styryl and R1 is hydrogen or C1-6 alkyl. The compounds 5 - [a , a , a - trifluoro - m - tolyoxy) methyl] - 2 - oxozolidinethione dispersed in a pharmaceutical carrier is used as a pregnancy inhibitor.
