Abstract

A detergent composition having controlled foaming properties comprises a water-soluble non-soap anionic, non-ionic, zwitterionic or ampholytic synthetic detergent and a synergistic defoaming agent consisting by weight of from 5% to 95% of at least one mineral, vegetable or animal oil and from 95% to 5% of at least one saturated or unsaturated, straight or branched chain, monoalkyl or diakyl acid phosphate or alkali mettal salt thereof, each alkyl group having from 16 to 20 carbon atoms. The composition may contain from 0.15% to 8.0% by weight of the defoaming agent. There is a reference to its use with soaps.ALSO:A defoaming agent consists of from 5% to 95% by weight of at least one mineral, vegetable or animal oil, and from 95% to 5% by weight of at least one saturated or unsaturated straight or branched chain monoalkyl or dialkyl acid phosphate or alkali metal salt thereof, each alkyl group having 16 to 20 carbon atoms. The oil is preferably mineral oil. Also mentioned are sesame oil, cottonseed oil, corn oil, sweet almond oil, olive oil, wheat germ oil, rice bran oil, peanut oil, lanolin, neat's foot oil, bone oil, sperm oil, cod liver oil. The alkyl group(s) of the alkyl acid phosphate may be stearyl (exemplified), arachidyl, palmitoleyl, oleyl, arachidonyl, palmityl. Examples relate to use of the de-foaming agent in detergent compositions (see Division C5); it also inhibits protein foam, for example that produced in the presence of skim milk or egg solids.
