Abstract

1,113,499. Machine supports; bearings. DENCO A.G. 16 July, 1965 [21 July, 1964], No. 30294/65. Headings F2A and F2X. [Also in Division E2] A vibration-isolating support particularly for looms comprises two spaced-apart cast-iron support members 28, Fig. 3, each having a flat bottom face 29 to engage the floor and upper bearing faces which are longitudinally curved as indicated at 30 in opposite directions and slope downwardly from points which lie in a common horizontal plane, and a spring steel back-up plate 43 and a P.T.F.E. bearing pad 44 sandwiched between the upper bearing surface of the member 28 and a complementary-shaped running 46 rigidly secured by bolts 54 to a foot of the loom and provided with a stainless steel slide plate 49. The two support members 28 are connected together by a tie rod 36 which can be rotated to adjust the relative distance between the members 28. The top surface of each support member 28 is recessed throughout its entire length to provide a shallow, generally V-shaped configuration indicated at 31, Fig. 5, in which the opposite face portions 32 are rounded transversely on gentle arcs. The face portions 32 are provided with slots 41 into which are removably received resilient, U- shaped extensions 42 of the spring back-up plates 43. Downturned lugs 45 on the P.T.F.E. pads snap into the extensions 42. The pad 44 and plate 43 which are transversely flat or are bowed slightly upwardly have limited rocking engagement on the arcuate faces 32, and under load conform to the longitudinal curvature 30 of the support member 28. In a modification, Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown), each support member 28 is formed or moulded from a structurally strong synthetic plastic rubber e.g. " Delrin " ( Registered Trade Mark) in which P.T.F.E. fibres in staple or flock form are dispersed in irregular order with some of the fibres projecting through the upper bearing surfaces of the base member so that as the stainless steel pad slides over the bearing surfaces a fine lubricating film of P.T.F.E. is distributed over the bearing surfaces. In adapting the invention to older types of looms, Figs. 9 to 12 (not shown), in which a motor (69) is mounted near the frame end (70), there is provided under the frame an adjustable, compressible coil spring (79) which is adjusted by means of a sleeve (86), movably threaded on to an upstanding bolt (88), to lift or remove precisely the proper amount of weight from the adjacent loom feet to equalize the weight on the supports 28.
