Abstract
b -Chloroethylisothiocyanate may be prepared by reacting the corresponding amine with thiophosgene. p-Chlorobenzylisothiocyanate may be prepared by reacting the ammonium salt of p-chlorobenzyl-dithiocarbamic acid with chloroformic acid ethyl ester.ALSO:A biocidal seed dressing comprises an isothiocyanate compound of the formula: R - N = C = S wherein R represents b -chloroethyl or para-chlorobenzyl. The seed dressing may be in the form of a powder, or a solution in xylene and/or methylene chloride. The seed dressing may also comprise an inert silicate such as talcum, a liquid carrier such as water, a wetting agent such as sodium N-oleyl-N-methyl-tauryl sulphonate, an emulsifier and/or an adhesive.ALSO:Biocidal compositions comprise a compound of the general formula: R - N = C = S in which R represents b -chloroethyl or parachlorobenzyl in admixture with an inert carrier. The compositions may be in the form of powders, spreading agents, granules, solutions or emulsions in the presence of liquid or solid inert carriers and also in the presence of wetting agents, adhesives and/or emulsifiers.
