Abstract
1,113,042. Pressure casting apparatus. DOW CHEMICAL CO. 24 Aug., 1965 [15 Sept., 1964], No. 36372/65. Heading B3F. In a die casting machine in which intermittent shots of molten metal are dispensed from a heated delivery pipe 12, a T-shaped nozzle is attached to the discharge end of the delivery pipe and which comprises first, second and third legs 18, 14 and 16 respectively which communicate with each other at the T-junction the first leg 18 extending horizontally and connected at its free end to the discharge pipe and having a substantially straight part remote from the T-junction and a bend 28 extending above the straight part communicating with the second and third legs which extend in an upward and downward direction respectively, the second leg 14 being inclined at an acute angle with respect to the end of the bend 28 of the first leg at the T-junction, the third leg being inclined obtusely with respect to the T-junction, the acute angle being less than the angle defined by the second leg and a combination of the straight part of the first leg. The second leg communicates with a supply gas to screen the molten metal as it is dispensed from the delivery pipe 12 through the first and third legs of the nozzle into the slot well of the die casting machine. The second and third legs are inclined at an angle to the vertical and have common or parallel longitudinal axes. The bend in the first leg may be arcuate or in the form of an inverted V-shaped segment.
