Abstract

1,112,692. Selective printing. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 14 Sept., 1965 [7 Sept., 1964], No. 39176/65. Heading B6F. In an electrostatic printer having a wire matrix printing head and in which the surface of a record medium 6 is charged by the potential between printing electrodes 1 and counterelectrode 5, the printing electrodes 1 are connected through two dipoles 7, 7<SP>1</SP> (which may be replaced by resistances or capacitors) to respective potential switches 3, 4 so that when both potential switches are closed 3-P1 and 4-P1 the effective potential exceeds the threshold value for initiating a gas discharge to produce a record mark on the record medium, whereas, when only one of the switches 3 or 4 is connected the potential does not attain the threshold value and constitutes a bias value. A third dipole, an electrical resistor 9, may be connected to the printing electrodes and is maintained at a fixed potential. The printing electrodes in an a x b matrix head are connected to their respective dipoles through a number of a + b potential switches.
