In a Gunn effect amplifier means are provided for varying the temperature of the Gunn effect element to vary the input frequency at which maximum negative resistance is manifested. Means may also be provided for switching the voltage applied to the element to a higher value at which oscillations begin, the triggering of the oscillations being controlled by varying the temperature of the element. The switching may be periodic.
