Abstract
<PICT:1110971/C4-C5/1> <PICT:1110971/C4-C5/2> A process for treating animal matter to extract the fats and transform the remainder to feedstuffs and fertilizers is characterized in that the matter, after leaving the prebreakers and any associated washing plant, is conveyed through the remaining treatment stages solely by pneumatic blowing and gravity drop. Bones crushed in 1 and offal, fat and gut crushed in 2 and washed in 3 are conveyed pneumatically to storage hoppers 10 and thence by gravity drop to cooking vessels 14. The output from 14 is discharged pneumatically and by gravity to supply vessels 15 and thence pneumatically to wet greaves hopper 22. The discharge from 22 passes pneumatically and under gravity to supply vessel 23 and then pneumatically to hydroextractors 29 where excess liquid and fat is drained. The dry discharge passes pneumatically to dry greaves hopper 35 and then under gravity to hopper 37 and mill 38, the output of the mill being conveyed to cyclone separator 39 and finally to bagging machine 40.
