Abstract
1,110,805. Transfers. VYZKUMNY USTAV SILNOPROUDE ELEKTROTECHNIKY. 17 Aug., 1965 [18 Aug., 1964], No. 35233/65. Heading H1T. [Also in Division G1] Apparatus for measuring the temperature of a transformer winding comprises an enclosure 2 defining a cavity 4 close to the winding 1, the cavity communicating via an electrically and thermally insulating pipe 5 with a thermocouple 6 so that fluid in cavity 4 can be continuously or intermittently drawn off to the thermocouple. The fluid may be the coolant surrounding the transformer or a different fluid flowing in a closed system. The cavity may contain baffles. In one embodiment (Fig. 4, not shown) for use in a transformer having disc coils the enclosure replaces a spacer between adjacent coils and includes a double layer of meandering passageways. Fluid is drawn into the passageways at the radially innermost and outermost portions, where it is preheated, and flows into the central portion from which it is drawn off to the thermocouple. The fluid in the outer passageways insulates that in the central portion from the transformer coolant external to the cavity. An arrangement, similar to that in Fig. 1, for use with layer type transformer windings is also described (Figs. 6 and 7, not shown).Baffles are attached to a thin wall of the cavity which is in close contact with the surface of a coil and do not touch the outer or side walls. Several temperature measuring devices may be placed in different parts of a transfomer, each being coupled by a pipe (5) to a chamber containing its thermocouple and each chamber being connected to an inlet to a common rotary cock, for connecting each in turn to a suction pump. Tube 5 preferably consists of single or double layers of hard paper in regions of high electric field, and of single layers of a polyamide in other regions. The cavity between the double layers may be traversed by the transformer coolant.
