Abstract

1,110,776. Microwave cooking apparatus. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 18 June, 1965 [23 June, 1964], No. 25873/65. Heading H5H. [Also in Division B8] The open end of the cavity 5, Fig. 1, of an automatic high-frequency heating apparatus is closed during the heating period by an electrically conductive layer on the end of an otherwise non-metallic container carrying food to be heated, leakage of power from the cavity thus being prevented. In the embodiment described high-frequency power for the cavity is provided through a microwave guide 8 via a parabolic reflector 9, Fig. 2, the power source 7 being actuated by a coin-operated device 10, which also actuates the remainder of the heating and delivery process in timed sequence. The container 2 is out from a chain of similar containers and falls into the cavity from a delivery wheel 1, the force of the fall being taken up by a heat-resistant glass plate 16. The cavity is closed at its lower end by a conducting plate 17, and at its upper end by the conductive layer on the container. On completion of the heating period the plate 16 is pivoted and one wall 14 of the cavity swings open on pins 12, 13 against the action of a spring 15, the container sliding from the cavity into a feeding-out compartment under its own weight. The conductive layer on the container comprises either a metal deposit, e.g. painted on, or a metal foil bag within a compartment of the container, suitable for holding material requiring protection against high-frequency heating.
