Abstract

1,110,389. Lubricating nylon filaments. E. I. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO. 2 Aug., 1966 [2 Aug., 1965], No. 34659/66. Heading B5B. [Also in Divisions C3 and C5] Melt spun nylon filaments are coated with a composition comprising: (a) 80 to 97% by weight of a polyoxypropylene compound, R(OC 3 H6) x OR1, wherein R and R<SP>1</SP> represent alkyl or aryl groups containing 1 to 4 carbons and x has an average value of 10 to 20, (b) 3 to 15% by weight of a non-ionic surfaceactive condensate of ethylene oxide and (c) up to 5% by weight of an antioxidant for the polyoxypropylene compound, collected into a yarn, drawn and annealed by contact with a highly heated surface. Antioxidants include aryl amines, alkylene-bis-phenols and thiobis-phenols. The yarn is useful as tyre-cord.
