Abstract

1,110,258. Spark gaps. A. REYROLLE & CO. Ltd. 22 Sept., 1965, No. 40389/65. Headings HID and H1X. The main electrodes 10 and 11 of a triggered spark gap are separated by an initially imperforate sheet 15 of insulating material which, on occurrence of a discharge between the trigger electrode 19 and an insert 17 in the main electrode 11, is perforated, a portion of the sheet together with the arcing products of the discharge being blown through a vent passage 20 in the main electrode 10, which is provided with an insert 21. The sheet 15 may be drawn in its own plane through the gap between the main electrodes 10 and 11 to present a fresh imperforate portion between the electrodes which are pressed towards one another by springs (not shown). The spark gap may be surrounded by air, oil, sulphur hexafluoride gas, or compressed air.
