A metal collar A for use in the initial attachment of yarn to a loom pirn C comprises a side wall 10 engaging the head portion B of the pirn, and an annular wall 12 extending perpendicularly from the wall 10, the wall 12 being provided with a plurality of hooks D formed from parts of the wall and inclined to the plane of the wall. The side wall 10 may be cylindrical or polygonally shaped. The collar is held on the pirn head by means of clamping rings F<SP>1</SP> The pirn may be manufactured from impregnated wood or of plastics material.
