Abstract

1,110,049. Idler roller assemblies for endless belt conveyers. MINING ENGINEERING CO. (MECO) Ltd. 2 Feb., 1967 [16 Feb., 1966], No. 6710/66. Heading B8A. A troughed idler roller assembly for supporting the loaded run of an endless conveyer belt, is supported between rigid parallel stringers 11 by brackets 23 welded or bolted to the inner faces of the said stringers. The spindle 22 of each of the outer idler rollers 18 of the assembly is cranked through 90 and is received in a bore in the bracket 23 which may be mounted obliquely or parallel to the stringers 11. The spindle is adjustably retained in the bracket by a pin 24 passing through the bracket and engaging one of a plurality of annular grooves in the spindle. Each outer roller may be connected to the bracket by a cranked bar which is slidably received in the roller spindle, the sliding action being resisted by a spring. In the embodiment of Fig. 4 (not shown), the spindle end is flattened and bored to be received between lugs fixed to the stringers and is attached thereto by a pin. More than two lugs may be provided to facilitate adjustment of the spindle. The flattened end may be offset from the axis of the spindle so that 180 degrees rotation of the spindle alters the spindle position by twice the offset. The mounting of the spindle supporting brackets or lugs on the inner faces of the stringers provides a clear top surface to the stringers, along which the wheels of trolleys may run.
