Abstract
An alkylammonium N-alkylsulphamate is prepared by reacting a finely-divided liquid monoalkylamine (other than cyclohexylamine) with SO3 vapour in a molar ratio of from 1.5:1 to 3.0:1. Specified amines are cyclopentylamine, methylcyclohexylamine, isopropylamine, isobutylamine and isoamylamine. The product may be worked up by extracting an aqueous solution thereof with a water-immiscible aromatic solvent and separating the aqueous solution of the alkylammonium N-alkylsulphamate. The latter may be treated with a base to obtain the N-alkylsulphamate derived from that base; an aqueous solution of this salt may be extracted with a water-immiscible organic solvent to remove N,N1-dialkylsulphamide.
