Abstract

A cement paint composition (defined as a composition comprising Portland cement as the main ingredient mixed with relatively small amounts of accelerators, pigments and water-repellent materials) has admixed therewith, in an amount of from 1 to 85 ounces of resin solids per hundredweight of the dry ingredients of the cement paint composition, a lime-stable aqueous dispersion of a synthetic resin capable of depositing, on drying at room temperature, a tough pliable continuous water-insoluble film. The resin may be polyvinyl chloride, polyvinyl acetate, copolymers of vinyl acetate with vinyl maleate or vinyl caprate, or with acrylates or methacrylates, polymers or copolymers of acrylates or methacrylates or polymers or copolymers of styrene for example with acrylic esters. The compositions may also include dispersing agents such as ethyl hydroxyethyl cellulose, sodium hexametaphosphate or alkyl phenol (ethylene oxide) fatty alcohol sulphate condensates.
