Abstract
1,108,982. Weighing loads in motion. S. H. LEVINSON. 4 May, 1965 [6 May, 1964], No. 18724/65. Heading G4H. Apparatus for weighing loads, e.g. railway trucks, whilst in motion includes means for determining the speed at which the load passes through the weighing station and indicating whether the speed is so excessive that the aocuracy of weighing is affected. In the embodiment described a relay Ra (Fig. 1) is engaged when a contact 3 at the weighing station is closed and it is held energized while there is a wheel on the,portion of the track 1d. When the relay de-energizes, i.e. when the truck is completely on the weighing portion of the track 1f, a pulse is applied on conductor 25 to a read logic circuit 39 (Fig. 2) and an output pulse from the logic circuit on conductor 40 resets a clock 43 to a preset value. The clock then counts to its maximum value when it generates a pulse on conductor 53 to a gate 45 which enables pulses on a conductor 54, the frequency of which represents the weight of the truck, to pass to a counter 52 where the count is displayed. The gate 45 whilst it is enabled by the signal on conductor 53 generates signals on conductors 61, 63, 64 until the clock 43 reaches a preset value and generates a pulse over conductor 60 to close gate 45. As the railway truck moves over the portion of the track 11 (Fig. 1) contact 4 is operated to energize a relay Rc and a pulse is then generated on conductor 32. If the signal on conductor 32 arrives whilst there is still a signal on conductor 64, i.e. is implying the train is approaching a speed at which the accuracy of weighing will be affected) a signal is generated on conductor 73 from marginal overspeed logic circuit 50 (Fig. 2) so that when a print impulse is received (when the clock 43 reaches a preset value) an AND gate 79 (Fig. 1a) is enabled to energize relay 12 and hence via contacts 12a, 13a, a yellow light 16 is lit and a motor 14 energized to drive a cam 19 to operate flasher contacts so that a horn 18 is sounded intermittently. When the railway truck moves on to the portion of the track 1g (Fig. 1) a relay Rd is energized and a signal transmitted on conductor 33 to an error logic circuit 51 (Fig. 2). If the signal on conductor 33 occurs whilst there is still a signal on conductor 63 (implying that the train was travelling too quickly) a signal is generated on conductor 75 so that when a printing signal occurs on conductor 81 an AND gate 83 is enabled to apply a signal to the printing mechanism on conductor 78 to indicate an error and an AND gate 82 is enabled which via conductor 101 energizes relays 10 and 13 so that via contacts 10a and 13b the horn 18 is continuously sounded and the motor 14 is energized to drive the cam 19 so that a red light 17 is flashed.
