Abstract
1,108,456. Twisting apparatus; yarn-brakes; stop motions. PALITEX PROJECT - CO. G.m.b.H. 25 July, 1966 [6 Aug., 1965], No. 33392/66. Heading D1D. In apparatus for spinning (especially in multiple twisting-apparatus), where the material being spun is drawn from a supply package and forms a balloon around the package, means for controlling or acting on the material located within the balloon are operated from outside the balloon by a voltage transmitted across the balloon. The material being spun may be yarn roving, slubbing, or other filamentary or stranded material. The voltage is transmitted by one element of a transformer outside the balloon to another element inside it, which is connected, if necessary through a rectifier, to the controlling means; the latter may be a yarn-brake, a yarn-severing device, a flyer, or drafting or feed rollers. In Fig. 1, the primary element 14 of the transformer is mounted at the base of a balloon-restrictor 10 of two-for-one twisting-apparatus, the secondary element 16 being mounted at a corresponding position on the stationary package holder. The secondary is connected through a rectifier with a coil 22 which controls a cartridge-brake 20 cooperating with upper and lower seatings 18, 19. As shown, the lower seating is of magnetic material and is urged by a spring 23, the force exerted by which is modified when the coil is excited. In another form, Fig. 2, not shown, the lower seating is provided with a magnetic ring which is repelled according to the strength of excitation of the coil. In Fig. 3, the transformer elements are disposed half way up the restrictor and holder; the secondary is connected to a coil 26 acting on a magnetic shoe 27 cooperating to brake the yarn with a surface 29 in the yarn-inlet. In another form, Fig. 4, not shown, a cartridge-brake again cooperates with upper and lower seatings, the upper seating being pressed downwardly by a spring and the lower one bearing against a cam-disc rotated by a step-by-step motor &c. worked by impulses from the secondary. The secondary may also excite a coil 30 (Fig. 3) to attract a spring-urged magnetic severing- element 31 into the path of the yarn, e.g. when the yarn breaks, or when the receiving package attains a desired diameter. In Fig. 5, a flyer 32 to assist unwinding of the yarn, is carried by a hub 35 rotatably mounted on the input tube 9. The hub has a magnetic surface 36 which can be attracted when a coil 37 is energized to brake the flyer or repelled, when the polarity of the coil is reversed, to "suspend" the flyer and cause it to rotate freely. In Fig. 7, drafting rollers 40, 40' are arranged in the input tube and are driven by motors 38 through gears 39, the motors being supplied from the secondary through a rectifier 240. Rollers to assist feeding of the yarn may be similarly driven, Fig. 6 not shown. The primary voltage in a number of spindles may be controlled from a central point.
