Abstract
1,108,123. Anti-skid braking system; warning devices. GRAUBREMSE G.m.b.H., and TELDIXLUFTFAHRT AUSRUSTUNGS G.m.b.H. 13 May, 1966 [14 May, 1965], No. 21311/66. Headings F2E and F2F. An hydraulic braking system comprising an anti-skid brake control unit 1 having a fluid supply pipe 4 connected to a brake operating cylinder 5a, 5b and a normally closed exhaust pipe 3, the control unit interrupting the supply pipe to the cylinder and for opening the exhaust pipe in the event of the wheels locking, is characterized by further means which inactivate the operation of the anti-skid device before the pressure generating member 19 reaches the limit of its travel. The further means may comprise a reservoir 26 having a movable wall 27 and connected to the exhaust pipe 3 and through a non-return valve to the supply line 2. The maximum volume of the reservoir is less than the maximum volume of output of the master cylinder; hence before the master cylinder reaches the limit of its travel the reservoir wall 27 will have reached position 27a and no further exhausting of cylinder contents through pipe 3 can be achieved by the control unit when operated by the skid sensor 13. The reservoir can be of a bellows form. In a modification (Fig. 1, not shown), the master cylinder pedal is arranged to open the electrical circuit between unit 1 and sensor 13 when the pedal nears the end of its travel. In a further modification, where an air operated brake servo is provided with a lever indicating the position of the piston, the contact may be associated therewith. Warning devices.-Switch means and warning devices (not shown) may be provided to inform the driver that the master cylinder has reached its limiting position.
