Abstract
1,107,879. Protective systems. J. A. CRABTREE (PROPRIETARY) Ltd. 15 April, 1965 [17 April, 1964], No. 16218/65. Heading H2K. In an earth leakage protective system comprising a core-balance transformer 3 having at least two primary windings 4, 5 constituted by or connected in supply conductors to a load 8 and a secondary winding 12, the transformer is provided with an additional primary winding 15 having one terminal connected to at least one of the supply conductors in such a manner that under normal operating conditions this terminal is substantially at neutral or earth potential. The other terminal of the winding 15 is connected to an earth conductor of the supply system and/or to a local earth and/or to a neutral conductor of the supply system so that any fault producing a potential difference between the terminals of the additional primary winding effects the opening of a circuit-breaker 9. In the arrangement shown, one terminal of the winding 15 is connected to the neutral conductor 5 and the other is connected through impedances 18, 19 to the earth conductor 23 and to a local earth 27. Each terminal of the winding 15 may be connected to more than one conductor through impedances. An amplifier 13 may be provided and have its power supply unit connected to several conductors through impedances 34-37 to guard against lack of operation due to open circuiting of a conductor. A reservoir capacitor 39 may be provided. Reference is made to the use of the secondary winding as the additional primary winding and to the use of more than one additional primary winding.
