Abstract

1,255,795. Protective systems. SERVODAN A.S. 5 Dec., 1968 [24 April, 1968], No. 57837/68. Heading H2K. An earth leakage protective arrangement comprises a circuit-breaker 6 having its tripping device 5 connected to the secondary winding 4 of a core-balance transformer 1, the device 5 being connected to an A.C. source through a first coupling including the secondary winding 4 and through a second coupling so arranged that they normally counterbalance each other, but when the sum of the currents in the primary windings differs from zero, the couplings are differently affected and the tripping device is energized. This arrangement enables response to be obtained when a D.C. earth leakage component exists on an A.C. supply, or when the arrangement is used as a D.C. earth leakage protective arrangement. As shown, the core-balance transformer 1 has an auxiliary winding 16 connected in series with the primary winding 17 of an auxiliary transformer to the supply conductors. The secondary windings 4 and 19 are connected in series to the device 5 in such a manner that the voltages induced in them from the windings 16, 17 cancel so the arrangement may function in the usual manner due to unbalance in the A.C. currents in the primary windings of the transformer 1 as well as to unbalanced D.C. currents in the primary windings altering the coupling between the windings 16, 4, resulting in the voltage induced in winding 19 predominating and causing tripping. In Fig. 6 (not shown) the transformers are combined, the windings 16, 17 being combined to form a common winding on the central limb of a three-limb transformer. In a further arrangement, Fig. 7 (not shown), only the corebalance transformer is used, the auxiliary winding and the secondary winding both being connected to an A.C. source.
