Abstract

A building board comprises a substrate, a primer coating on at least one major face thereof, a pattern or design overlying the primer, and an outer transparent or translucent protective coating. Both the primer and the outer coating are suitably a cured unsaturated polyester resin or a cured epoxy resin. The substrate is suitably asbestos cement, concrete, stone, plywood, chipboard, or synthetic resin, e.g. rigid polyvinyl chloride. The pattern or design is preferable formed by means of a silk screen using a pigmented polyester ink, but may be applied by a brush or a roller. The lacquer may be applied by spraying. The lacquer is cured at elevated temperature. The coated substrate may be polished.
