Abstract

1,107,585. Fluid filter. G. & A. FIRKINS Ltd. 29 April, 1966 [20 July, 1965], No. 30731/ 65. Heading B1D. An oil filter comprises a cylindrical screen 17 which is cleaned during use by a reverse flow of filtrate from an assembly of parallel tubes 19 having outlet slits directed towards the screen, the assemlbly being arcuately reciprocated on the downstream side of the screen. As shown, four tubes 19 are spaced at 90‹ intervals inside screen 17. and handle 35 serves to actuate a semi-rotary pump 26, which draws filtrate from chamber 14 and delivers it by ports 32, 33 34 to tubes 19, and to rotate the tube assembly, through more than 90‹. An assembly of three spaced tubes would be reciprocated through more than 120‹. Screen 17 may be sintered bronze or stainless steel and is closed by plate 18 at one end. and tubes 19 may carry rubber strips which make sealing contact with the screen. The housing is periodically cleared of sludge by removing a drain plug closing port 37. In a larger filter, the reverse flow fluid may be supplied through a power operated pump, and the pump and tube assembly driving means may be separate.
