Abstract

1,107,290. Thread-break. PALITEX PROJECTCO. G.m.b.H. 24 Oct., 1966 [25 Oct.. 1965], No. 47592/66. Heading DID. A thread brake, Fig. 1, for 2:1 twisting apparatus comprises a housing 1 which is insertable into a bobbin holder and which carries a thread-guide tube 13 and a pair of axially - spaced brakerings 2, 4 with a brake cartridge 3 between them; the upper brakering is carried by a ring 5, the axial position of which in the housing can be adjusted by engaging a fixed stop 7 with a selected one of a number of surfaces located at different levels on the ring 5. The cartridge 3 may be a single member with upper and lower rounded ends or, as shown, two telescopically-slidable members each with a rounded end and with a spring between them. The ring 5 is secured to the tube 13, and is loaded by a spring 13 bearing at its upper end against a collar 12 removably secured to the housing and slidable on the tube 13. The surfaces which cooperate with the stop 7 to position the upper brake ring are constituted by the ends of slots (6a, 6b, Fig. 2, not shown) having curved sides and different depths; by turning the tube 13, the ring 5 can be rotated until a selected one of the slots engages the stop 7, thus changing the degree of compression of the spring 11, to vary the load on the upper brake-ring. The load is indicated by which one of a series of marks on the tube 13 becomes level with the stop 7. of which a lug 8 engages a recess (9) in the bobbin carrier (10, Fig. 3) to position the housing relatively to the bobbin carrier. The carrier has one or more openings 14 through which the cartridge can be observed and replaced by one containing a spring of different characteristics. In alternative arrangement, the carrier 1 is in two parts connected by asymmetricallyspaced curved plates or rods, which to locate the carrier are engaged with correspondinglylocated recesses in the bobbin carrier. The lower brake ring may be supported on a spring as described in Specification 1,107,289.
