Abstract
1,106,917. Moulds. AMSTED INDUSTRIES Inc. 6 April, 1966 [30 July, 1965], No. 15279/66. Heading B3F. Mould apparatus comprises a pair of main side blocks 12, 14 movable into and out of assembly with inner blocks 18, 20, 22, 24 to form a mould cavity therebetween. A riser passage 30 communicates the mould cavity with a riser cavity situated in the plane of separation of the mould externally thereof and formed by a riser box 32 constituted by cooperating portions 32a and 32b, Fig. 4, respectively secured to mould parts 12 and 14 and movable therewith. An intermediate backing member 50 is positioned between one junction of the riser box and clamps 52, 54, hold the riser assembly in position when lasting. The backing member 50 is of a similar width to the top mould member 20 and may be varied in cases where the width of the mould is changed with corresponding changes in the top member 20. In an alternative embodiment Figs. 8 and 9 (not shown), the riser cavity is formed by rigid angle members secured to the side mould ports which when assembled, hold between them extended portions of a mould front port and a backing member, the ports being held together by the clamping of the mould. The mould parts may be made of graphite.
