Abstract

In a method of up-draft sintering sulphidic zinc or lead ores or concentrates thereof on a sinter chain, wherein the material to be sintered is deposited on the sinter chain, sintered by conducting an induced draught upwardly through the sinter from below the chain, and is discharged from one end of the chain as the sintered product and wherein fresh air is fed at the discharge end of the chain to remove dust from the sintered product, the resulting dustladen air, together with gases poor in sulphur dioxide evolved during the sintering operation are withdrawn from above the sinter chain and recycled to below the sinter chain to form the induced draught, while gases rich in sulphur dioxide are withdrawn from above the sinter chain at or near the location where the material to be sintered is deposited on the chain.
