Abstract

Water-soluble polyacrylamide is produced by polymerizing acrylamide in the absence of air in an aqueous solution containing 1 to 24% NH3, by weight of the acrylamide, dissolved in the said aqueous solution, using nuclear radiation or a free radical initiator. In examples, the initiators used are g -radiation and ammonium persulphate. The polyacrylamide is used as a flocculant (see Division C1).ALSO:A clay suspension is flocculated by addition of an aqueous solution of polyactylamide, which is produced by a method giving it superior flocculating properties (see Division C3).
