Abstract

1,106,089. Controlling gas burners. APPLIED CHEMICALS Ltd., and J. M. SPILLER. 25 Aug., 1965 [29 Sept., 1964], No. 39635/64. Heading F4T. A gas burner 26 for heating a mixture of water and liquid detergent flowing in a double heating coil 11 is supplied with gas through an electromagnetic valve 29 which when energized is fully open to give a high burner rate and when de-energized is partially open to give a low burner rate, and the energization of the valve is controlled by a pressurestat 35 actuated by the pressure of steam at the outlet of the heating coil. The valve 29 has an adjustable stop screw 32 for adjusting the low burner rate. The gas flow to the burner may be cut off by a flame failure device 42 actuated by a thermocouple 43 heated by a pilot burner 39. The gas supply to the pilot burner is also controlled by the flame failure device 42 and by a valve 46 which closes when the temperature of the steam sensed by a device 45 is too high. At starting a knob 47 on the flame failure device is pressed to supply the pilot burner. The water and detergent are pumped from tanks 14, 13 by a pump 17. A buffer cylinder 22 is provided.
