Abstract

1,105,889. Heat Insulating pipe coverings. A. F. S. SLAYMARK. 3 Oct., 1966, No. 44031/66. Heading F2P. A heat insulating element 5 for lagging a curved pipe comprises a length of semi-rigid but bendable heat-insulating material, such as expanded polystyrene, a groove 11 extending lengthwise of the element and adapted to embrace part of the pipe periphery, and a plurality of slits 19 extending transversely to the length of the element partially through the width of the material so that the element can be readily bent to conform to the pipe curvature. As shown, a pipe bend covering comprises two such elements 5 and 7, the element 7, which is intended to be positioned on the inside of the bend, having slits 21 extending from the outer surface 13 inwards and the element 5, which is intended to be positioned on the outside of the bend, having slits 19 extending from the inner surface containing the groove 11 outwards. The slits, which may be out by a hot wire, of a thickness of about <SP>1</SP>/ 16 or <SP>1</SP>/ 32 of an inch, and spaced about 1/ 8 of an inch apart, close up on bending to the pipe form. The elements may be secured to the pipe bend by lengths of adhesive tape 23, Fig. 1 (not shown).
