A cymbal is retained on its support post by a latch. The latch need not be detached from the post to remove or replace the cymbal and thus is less likely to be lost or misplaced. Also the cymbal can be more quickly released than with the usual wing nut. As shown, in Fig. 4, a cap 30 of the same diameter as the post fits on the thread which conventionally receives the wing nut. The catch 32 can be pivoted by rotation of a knob 34 from the position shown to a position in which it projects through a slot in the cap as indicated at 39, thereby retaining the cymbal in place. In a modification, the knob 34 is not provided, and the catch consists of a pawl spring biased to project through the slot. Two such pawls on opposite sides of the cap may be used. In a further modification (Fig. 6), the cymbal is retained by a toggle pivoted at 65 to a cap or to the end of the post. The toggle is recessed to engage a boss 67 or 68 when rotated to the retaining or releasing position.
