Abstract
Novel compounds of the formula <FORM:1105426/C2/1> where R is a five-membered heterocyclic radical containing nitrogen and suphur and each of R1 and R2 is a hydrogen or a halogen atom or a C1- 5 alkyl, phenyl, halophenyl, thienyl, C1- 5 alkoxy, C1- 5 alkylthio, phenoxy, or phenylthio radical, provided that when both R1 and R2 are other than halogen, at least one of R1 and R2 is hydrogen, are obtained by treating compounds of the formula <FORM:1105426/C2/2> with sulphur at a temperature of 100 DEG -200 DEG C. The thio-anilides thus obtained may be treated with ammonia or an ammonium salt to form the corresponding amidines. The starting compounds for the above process may be obtained by treating a compound of the formula <FORM:1105426/C2/3> with a compound of the formula ClCH2-R, in which formulae R, R1 and R2 are as defined above.
