Abstract

1,105,364. Aircraft tractors. J. A. MASLING. 12 Nov., 1965 [19 Nov., 1964; 2 Aug., 1965], No. 48248/65. Heading B7H. A tractor for manoeuvring aircraft includes a platform 2 and a flexible steel cable 11 which is fastened to the nose wheel strut of an aircraft and wound on a windlass 7 to pull the nose wheel on to the platform 2. A depression in the platform 2 locates the nose wheel, and a hinged ramp 14 supported by wheels 17 is raised automatically when the nose wheel is in position. A pair of wheels 3 are driven from an engine 6 controlled by a throttle lever 31 through transmission means including a friction clutch and differential gearing. A brake 33 acting on the transmission is applied by a lever 34. A castor wheel 4 may be locked in any position about a vertical pivot axis by a disc brake applied by a pedal 25 and released by a pedal 26. The winch 7 is actuated by a handle 10 through a worm-drive 9, or may be driven from the engine 6 through a friction clutch. The tractor may be provided with a rotary moving attachment.
