Abstract

[Also in Division B3] Apparatus for scooping molten metal from a crucible and pouring it into a mould comprises a frame 1 having a support 2 and a cover 7. A laterally extending cranked arm 3 is pivotally attached at 4 to the support 2 and carries at its outer end a ladle 9. The arm 3 may be raised and lowered vertically by fluid means 13 such movement also effecting pivoting of the arm by the action of a roller 5 on the inner end of the arm co-operating with the undersurface of the cover 7. Lowering of the arm 3 by means 13 permits, under the control of the roller 5 and spring 25 in the arm guide 23, the immersion of the ladle in the molten metal. The volume of metal scooped into the ladle depends upon the angle of inclination of the arm and this is controlled by an adjustable stop 24 at the upper end of the guide 23. When the ladle is filled, the operation of fluid means 13 raises the arm vertically and pivots the arm into a horizontal position. Fluid means 14 is then actuated to turn the arm and ladle about the vertical axis of the support 2 so as to bring the ladle into position over a mould. Fluid means 15 which is attached to the arm 3 and the support 2 is then actuated to turn the arm about a horizontal axis and so pour the molten metal from ladle into the mould. The whole sequence of operations may be effected automatically.
