Abstract
1,105,296. Cathode-ray tube circuits. RANK ORGANISATION Ltd. 20 Aug., 1965 [21 May, 1964], No. 20941/64. Heading H4T. In a symbol display arrangement of the kind utilizing selective control (i.e. ON-OFF) of a plurality of electron beams produced by an e.g. 7 x 5 matrix in a cathode-ray tube together with deflection control means for positioning each symbol in a desired location on the tube screen an increase in the definition equivalent to that which a 14 x 10 matrix would produce is realized by subjecting the beams to a subsidiary deflection during each symbol display period such that each beam follows the path A-B-C D (Fig. 1). The subsidiary deflection is produced by supplying the normal X and Y deflection means with the output of a pulse generator 170 (Fig. 4, not shown) comprising a repeating sequence of pulses 1 to 4 (Fig. 2, not shown), these pulses, additionally, being combined in 180 (Fig. 4) to derive a further sequence 5 to 9 (Fig. 2) which together with the four subsidiary deflection pulses are utilized for ON-OFF control of the tube beams (Fig. 3, not shown), selectively in accordance with the symbol produced (Figs. 4 and 5a, 5b, not shown).
