Abstract
1,105,132. Control of D.C. motors. LANSING BAGNALL Ltd. 14 April, 1965 [20 April, 1964], No. 16217/64. Heading H2J. When thyristor SCR1 is fired, the rising load current from battery 11 to motor 10 induces a voltage in transformer T to charge capacitor C1 through diode D2. Firing of thyristor SCR2 discharges the capacitor to turn off thyristor SCR1 and terminate the current-pulse to motor 10. The thyristors are fired alternately in a cyclic manner to provide a pulsing current supply to the motor. The transformer is wound so that the rate of increase of the magnetic field bears a substantially linear relation to the rate of increase of current at the onset of each pulse. Inductance L1 prolongs the discharge pulse of the capacitor. Diode D3 and resistor R2 assist in discharging the reverse charge on the capacitor at the end of each pulse.
