In a clip, e.g. for braces, of the type comprising a base plate 3, a spring plate 8 movable about one of its ends relative to the base plate, said one end engaging against a portion 5 of the base plate bent upward from one end thereof substantially at right angles to the general plane of the base plate, and a ibiassing lever 14 pivotally mounted on the base plate and operable to bias the spring plate 8 into clamping engagement with the base plate 3, the end portion of the spring plate 8 is supported against an abutment surface 6 provided on the inner face of the portion 5. As described the abutment surface 6 is formed by bending up a flap having an aperture 25 from the base plate 3, and is engaged by inclined tongues 7 at the end of the base plate 8 which is stepped centrally. The lever 14 is pivoted by means of journals 13 in bearing posts 11 bent up from the base plate and having bent over end flanges 24. The journals 13 are displaced from the junction between the two arms of the lever 14 along the longer arm thereof to reduce the distance between the lever and the portion 5. The base plate 3 has strengthening ribs 4 and the plates 3, and 8 have jaw pieces 23, and 16 respectively rivetted thereto. In a second embodiment no flap is bent out of the base plate 3 and the tongues 7 are inserted into blind recess impressed in the inside face of the portion 5.
