[Also in Division H4] A code converter (Fig. 2) comprises two sets of loops a1 a2, a3, b1, b2, b3 and 11, 12 . . . 1n selectively coupled to one another, e.g. by magnetic coupling elements, so that an input pulse of one polarity applied to one or a combination of the first set of loops produces an output pulse on one of the second set of loops having a greater amplitude than the pulse produced on the other loops, the pulses on the other loops being compensated by a pulse supplied simultaneously with the input pulse(s) but of opposite polarity to a loop K which is inductively coupled to all the loops 11, 12, . . . 1n. In the embodiment described the primary windings of transformers U1 . . . Un are connected to all the output loops so that the output pulse sets one of the cores U1 . . . Un. When a read-out pulse from a pulse generator AJ is supplied to all the cores only the set core emits an output pulse to a decoder. At the decoder output pulses are induced on conductors wA, wB, . . . wX in accordance with the position of magnetic couplings connecting the input loops 21, 22 . . . 2n and output loops A, B, C . . . X. In the embodiment of Fig. 3, the coder and decoder may work in reverse, input pulses on leads a1w . . . b3w inducing output pulses on windings wA . . . wX and input pulses on winding Aw, . . . Xw inducing output pulses on windings wa1 . . . wb3.
